June 5 1987 - August 24 2001
August 17, 2001 our lives were changed forever. It was only 3 days into the school year. Shane was in 8th grade. School was only 3 miles from our home. At 3:17 that day, on their way home from school, my boys had crossed over a busy road and was t-boned. My son Dustin suffered only minor injuries, but Shane was hit from the passenger side. He spent one week in pediatric ICU at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He suffered many internal injuries that the doctors were confident that they could repair. But his head injury was way more severe. On Sunday the 20th, they removed part of Shane's frontal brain. At that moment, I knew we had lost the Shane we once knew, but was still hopefull he would survive. On the following Friday exactly 1 week later we were told "We've done all we can do" That day forever changed all of us. Shane will live on through our lives, but we will miss his smile, his laughter, his gentle spirit, but most of all we will miss the love he had for his family. He was and always will be the music of our hearts!
